Synopsis:

Incunabula from 1489, belonging to the printing house of Juan Parix of Heidelberg and Enrique Clebat, in Toulouse, Languedoc.

The Castilian bachelor Alfonso de la Torre wrote this essay towards 1440, requested by the prior of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Juan de Beamonte. The essay is made of two parts: in the first one, liberal arts are discussed, Metaphysics and Nature; and in the second part, moral philosophy, virtues and passions. Twenty two engravings accompany each of the subjects addressed.

The author writes with learning and wisdom, in a prose typical of its era. It is a text which had a clear editorial success, and was printed several times.
