This is the
first treatise on animal poisons by the doctor and poet of antiquity, Nicandro
de Colofón (2nd Century B.C.). The Greek text appears together with its
Latin translation and an analysis (differentiated by the smaller italics used
for its composition) by Pedro Jaime Esteve (c. 1500-1558), professor of the
University of Valencia and the founder of its school of renaissance-oriented
doctors and naturalists.
This work is one of the
greatest Spanish examples of scientific classics with incorporated analyses and
is one of the most impeccable Greek texts published in 16th century
Spain.
