ÁLVAREZ CHANCA, DIEGO.

Tractatus de fascinatione (on the title page: Libro del Ojo). Printer: Pedro Brun. Seville, 1499. Size: 4º. 20 leaves (40 pages)

This is the famous "Libro del Ojo", as it appears on the title page of the volume, by the physician to the Catholic Monarchs, Diego Álvarez Chanca of Seville, who accompanied Columbus on his second journey and was very briefly quoted by Nicolás Antonio. Particularly noteworthy are the ornamental borders at the start of the text which depict insects and other animals interwoven with stems and flowers.
