García". Beautifully illustrated manuscript. Codex of the
Carthusian Monastery of Seville.

Line printed, case: 215/220 x 150/155 mm., 32/34 line; quadrat: 10 + 2 + 17
(10) + 5, fascicle catchwords; modern page numbering, plain ruled paper: some
leaves damaged by the damp; marginal notes for rubrician; on inside cover later
label indicating number assigned in the Hispano-European Exhibition of 1892.
Flourishes in red, pauses in alternating red and blue; initials alternating in
polychrome and gold, or red and blue; large initials with floral motifs on f.
26r, start of bk. II, on f. 35r, start of the 2nd part of bk. II, y on f. 45v,
start of bk. III. Contains the following full-page and half-page miniatures
(15th century):
1st leaf (recto): The King with
his huntsmen. Border with naked children, floral decorations, birds among the
leaves and, at the bottom, crown coat of arms of Castile and Leon.
15th leaf (verso): Wild boar hunting scene. Border with floral motifs.
34th leaf (verso): Prince Peter and his huntsmen with a wounded dog and a dead
wild boar. Border with floral motifs.
83rd leaf (verso): Kings lunch during the hunt. Border with floral motifs
and naked child at the bottom.
91st leaf (recto): Bear hunt. The King with riders, beaters and dogs. Border
with floral motifs, naked child and birds.
91st leaf (verso): Bear and venison hunt. Border with floral motifs. Borders
with blank spaces for miniatures, leaves 93r, 95r, 110r, 112v, 150r, 154v,
175v.
19th century binding in red morocco leather, imperial style gilt tooling; in
the centre of the covers, gold sheet with the royal coat of arms framed by the
columns PLUS ULTRA, nautical instruments, galley, globe.
The plate is signed by BOOK SC. LONDON; the binding on the lower part of the
spine is signed by PASTOR; gilt irons on spine, gilt edges.
